Part of my critical test/setup
procedure involves placing one of the the mains speakers out of
polarity with the subwoofer, and critically matching the subwoofer
signal until it cancels with the mains. That procedure is here:
www.soundoctor.com/testcd
Another procedure involves
feeding white noise into both the L and R speakers out of polarity
with each other. (That procedure has nothing to do with
the sub(s), which may be off or disconnected for the procedure.
That procedure is here: www.soundoctor.com/testcd/whitenoise.htm
If you have "normal"
speaker wires feeding your mains the procedure is easy - you simply
reverse the red and black wires to one of the speakers.
However if you have powered
speakers which are fed with balanced XLR type 3-pin connectors,
the procedure is more difficult and often quite annoying. This
kit makes it easy. (If your powered speakers are connected with
unbalanced RCA connectors, there is no easy way to do this test.)
You simply use the straight
F-M cable as an "extension", for example to lengthen
the cable TO the speaker, so you can now stand in front of the
speaker and plug and unplug the polarity flipper cable. The polarity
flipper cable itself is plugged into the self-powered speaker.
Now you are able to stand
8 feet or so in front of your speakers and follow the procedure
easily. The "KIT" looks like this:
